BBC Consumer Fight Back highlight risks of scam databases

We’re plagued by online scams everywhere and particularly for such an emotive subject as pet ownership, it’s worth reminding everyone to make sure you know that your pet’s microchip is registered with an authorised, Defra-compliant microchip database. Too many people trust the sponsored ads on search engines and assume they’re genuine. Not so, they’ve paid to be there because it makes them money and your pet may not be correctly or legally registered.

However, there’s been a groundswell of media attention recently e.g. a Which? article, an upheld ASA complaint and BBC Rip Off Britain regarding scam/unauthorised databases.

The subject has also been covered in more depth by BBC Consumer Fight Back with the help of AMDO. The podcast is available on

It’s a useful reminder to pet owners and professionals alike on the pitfalls that people can unknowingly fall for.
