AMDO has collaborated with Defra and selected suppliers to develop industry-led solutions to deliver the single point of search (also know as single point of access) to streamline identification and reunification of pets by authorised users.
Vet practices, local authorities, law enforcement and some welfare organisations will be able to search and retrieve pet and keep details from all compliant UK databases via a single portal.
Because authorised users come from a range of animal related sectors, with access to different IT solutions and platforms, it’s necessary to have a small number of solutions so that SPoS can be accessed online as well as through vet practice software or animal management software used by some organisations. All SPoS solutions will do the SAME thing. Users will only need to sign up for ONE solution depending on which fits best with the way the organisation works.
We’re aiming to connect all AMDO members to SPoS as quickly as possible but it will take a little time to roll out to non-members. In the meantime, please see the next section for alternative options.
Approved solution providers will be displayed here and updated as and when new solutions are launched:
e.g. Supplier A

In the interim, there are existing tools e.g. check-a-chip.co.uk which also links to the gov.uk page on compulsory microchipping.
Every compliant database website should also have a chip checking tool prominently displayed that tells you where a microchip is registered and provide contact details for the relevant database.
Searchers and pet keepers should never be more than two clicks or two phone calls away from the information you need.
